(1)  sather gate at berkeley is GREEN.  i always thought it was dirty silver.  i walked under that thing a million times for 4.5 years and never knew.
(2)  the nighttime sky is sometimes NAVY BLUE.  this is super cool to me.  so beautiful.

this lens gives me a new appreciation of the world - someone majorly bumped up the vividness and warming meter, and the world is ridiculously colorful.  so colorful that i can't even identify many colors.

however, if i had to choose one of my senses to be deficient, i think colorblindness is the best deficiency.  lucky me.

1 year ago, i was walking like an old old lady because i had overdone a kickboxing workout the day before and hurt myself.  my husband laughed at me.
4 years ago, i spent my birthday in the library frantically studying for a killer (no pun intended, har har) virology midterm the next day.  mak had to hunt me down in the library.
5 years ago, i was taking a chemistry midterm.
6 years ago, i forgot to bring my id with me and i could not order an alcoholic drink.
11 years ago, i was dreaming of what kind of life i would have in 10 years and hoping i would be out of boring simi valley.  what a dream come true.
20 years ago, i was so excited for my birthday party that i forgot to comb my hair.
23 years ago, i was so excited for that it was birthday that i got sent to the corner (for talking too much).  preschool teachers sure can be jerks.
27 years ago, i did not know what was going on.  i was probably grumpy though and wanted to be left alone and not fussed over.
100 years from now, i will be dead.

that said, i was making fun of mak today for planning out our trip to new york and new haven.  he spent a good hour checking out what types of foods we need to eat in ny, which led me to think about our first trip to ny together 5 years ago.  a lot has changed in five years:

* we now have yelp reviews to guide our eating choices.  we didn't eat anything memorable 5 years ago in ny.  that sounds ridiculous.  i remember we even ate at au bon pain and TGIF.  *cringe*  what a total waste!  were we thinking.

* on a related note, we were not foodies yet.  we were cheapos when it came to food.  now we will pay for stellar food.  5 years ago we took no food pictures!  80% of our travel pictures now are of food, haha.

* mak jumped on the bandwagon and ordered an iphone which will be here in time for our trip.  this will be super useful when we are out and about.  we did not have that luxury 5 years ago.

* i won't be scared to take public transportation.  haha.  sheltered little girl.

* we have been married for almost three years.  we had our first serious marriage talk while on that trip 5 years ago.

* i can be rounded up to 30 years old now.  i keep saying this to myself so i can be comfortable with turning another year older in a few weeks.  not like i have a choice.  gulp.

* i am so done with school.  most of the reason for that trip 5 years ago was to check out schools that i wanted to apply to for grad school.  i ended up applying to none in the east coast because i was afraid of freezing and not having cheap plentiful produce.  no joke.  now the major reason for our trip is to celebrate a dear friend's wedding.  =D  =D  =D


why oh why does red meat on an empty or near empty stomach give me a headache.  i find this both fascinating and sucky.  thankful it is not a full blown migraine this time.  but it is does call for an early bed time.  the end.

the first time i saw someone have and simultaneously use two monitors at their desk was my stepdad in law.  he is a nerd.  i laughed.  the next time i saw simulatenous monitor use was at google.  they are all nerds.  i laughed.  the next time i saw several simultaneous monitor users was at my current office.  i laughed.
 
and today, i could no longer take the flipping back and forth between excel and pdf files on one monitor.  i broke down and am now using two monitors.  it will save a few seconds to do my work faster.  but i laugh.

i'm starting to realize that one of the reasons i love vienna teng is that we think similar thoughts, except she can put them into pretty audio form, whereas my thoughts stay jumbled incoherently in my head 1 out of 100 times.  not a week goes by where i don't feel the bittersweetness of life.  even the best or most precious or most beautiful experiences are always "shadowed" in my head and heart with the thought and feeling that this cannot last; that one day yet another person i love will die, that one day i might not be able to walk or hear or see, etc.
